Pigs Outbreak!

pigs

Excuse me, if you are on a fine dine today with a hearty pork meal, but recent report says that an outbreak of a hog cholera disease, a corona virus, is already making a headline in the Northern part, particularly in Bulacan.

50 pigs are already infected and almost 60 dead pigs were found “swimming & floating”, which were initially dumped in an irrigation canal, in Guiguinto, a town here.

The decomposing carcasses were fished out of an irrigation canal of the National Irrigation Authority in Barangay (village) Tiaong here and buried three meters away from where they were found.

A related news report in Pasay City, the police intercepted a delivery of what is believed to be “double-dead meat” and was headed to a public market for sale & consumption. Thanks for the immediate response of our local enforcement unit. A good job there!

If you’re a pork/meat lover, better stay away for now until the outbreak is contained. We will never know how many have been infected of this disease. It is better for us to be safe and watch the food being served on the table.

The cases had been reported in 43 villages in the 12 towns in Bulacan.

  1. better safe than sorry. times like this, it’s practical to go vegan. kangkong, kamote and all that greens. m on a week of veggies now since hearing a lot about these cases of double dead meat.

  2. Swine fever (aka hog cholera) doesn’t infect people. It’s only deadly and infectious to pigs. So people don’t really need to worry about eating pig meat for that reason, though we could certainly transmit the disease to other pigs if we were around sick pigs or contamited meat beforehand. That’s the reason authorities are concerned about infected meat.

The only impact it has on the human population is with the hog industry. Financally it is a disastor to these people since infected pigs and suspected pigs need to be sluaghtered and burned to prevent spread to other pigs.

I feel so sorry for those pigs because swine fever is an awful way to die. Good luck containing this outbreak. ^_^
